ARIZONA HO RACING ASSOCIATION

NEWS----------RUMORS----------GOSSIP

IN OTHER WORDS, THE GOOD STUFF!

Big news of March was the steady level of attendance with the number 13 seeming to be the norm. The group seems to be having fun and the events have been a lot better than some Pro meets we've been to. Along with a good group of racers to spend a friday nite with it seems you guys are getting faster. The difference between the fastest and slowest qualifier is closing up and the lap totals are getting tighter too!

Also big news was the arrival of the Globe, Az group with Rod and David. Some of the racers from the old AHORA group will remember the always fast and winning Rod. And David for a first time racer ain't no slouch either. Looking forward to going up to Globe on a Saturday for a round of bashing hard bodied Nascars! Hear it's so tough that you'll come back with tire marks on your doors just like Dale Earnhardt's car always looks!

And to top things off, Greg has started his parts dealership with the ability to order from Scale Auto and Wizzard at the moment. Slottech, Thunderbolt bodies and REH (Madd bodies and some T-Jet parts) are coming online also. Several racers have already ordered and Greg wants to thank them for their support. Hopefully at the end of the year we can maybe hit these guys up for some donations! Greg has ordered catalogs to pass on to those interested. Also Greg will be on hand for any repairs or advice (if you trust him!) at the races.

The first race of March saw Paul romp away from his sons and Zane to win again at his track. The racing was very tough with a lot of hotshoes not making it out of the semis. This was mainly due to some newcomers such as Rich, Rod, Marty, etc going faster and making the moveups very tough. Rod commented several times how fast and tough our racing looked. That's quite a compliment when you consider that we're having a lot of fun too! Surprizing this was the first race where no track records were set! But after his dad "detuned" his car James set a blistering time of 21.9, only .6 off the record to nab T.Q. It was also the first time ANYONE had run their 1 minute qualifying run without falling off! Good show kid! Only 5.4 laps seperated the fastest from the slowest. The difference in the main has gone from over 35 laps to just under 33 so everyone looks to be getting faster, it's just the slower guys are catching up. Can't wait to see what goes on in a few months! James led the opening segment only to have brother David take over in the 2nd and 3rd. But Dad on green cut a main hi of 46 in the final heat to win by less than 2 laps! Zane made a bid at James for 3rd but came up 3 laps short.

5th went to Rodger, 155.5 who beat Greg 155.3 and Jason 154.5 in a tight finish. Rod was 8th and a very quick Rich 9th. Only 16 laps seperated 5th from 13th place. Man, if some of the new people get just a littlte more faster it is going to be one hot nite at the raceway!

The next race held in March was at Zane's fast 4x12 track. Several racers were out of town or at the Suns basketball game so it was decided to run a T-Jet race. Dave once again ran a smooth fast pace to beat the other T-Jet racers. Rod and David came down for a taste of it and it looked like they had a good time. Rod was very quick to scope out the hot setups and if he gets into it the T-Jet pace will crank up. After the race the crazies hit with first Super Stocks, then Modifieds and finally Restricted Opens blazing a wild path around the track. Several racers are going to Los Angeles for the SCHOR race April 28th and 29th so this warmup was important. With some eyeing the HOPRA National Championship in June LA will be a good indicator of where we are.
